What's it good for?

Belgian beers and local ales with a Minster view.

Where is it?

Boasting one of the best views of York Minster from a pub window, Vahe Bar sits across the road from the Cross Keys on Goodramgate with vistas across the green on College Street to Minster Yard.

If you are setting out to visit Vahe Bar take note of the limited opening hours to avoid disappointment, it is only open from Wednesday to Saturday and opens at 5pm on Wednesday and Thursday.

What's it all about?

With its extensive drinks list, ramshackle alcoves, and unheated outhouse toilets, you would be forgiven for thinking you were in bar in Bruges. This charming little establishment has very reasonable prices and some cocktails to die for.

The staff are wonderful, appear to know everyone who comes in, and are very accommodating. I can see why most of the punters sat at the bar appear to be regular patrons.

What's on the bar?

Two real ales - lots of craft beers - a fridge full of Belgians -  coffee - wines - champagne - hot wines (blackberry, damson, elderflower, ginger, and mulled wine) an impressive cocktail list. The choices are endless.

Do they serve food?

Drinks are certainly the focus here, there isn't any hot food served.

Is it accessible / allow kids / dogs?

From what I could tell, none of the above. It's a tiny cocktail bar with late hours, nestled in a rabbit warren of old buildings so opportunity to make it fully accessible are few and far between.

Will you go again?

Certainly, Vahe Bar is a lovely little venue with an impressive drinks list, what's not to like?
